The summary of our survey findings

Introduction
Accommodation is one of the important factors for international students therefore we have decided to ask international students in EAP4 at Swinburne University about how they manage the challenges of accommodation.
This survey was completed by 10 students, who come from Columbia, Indonesia, Korea, Oman, Peru, Thailand and Vietnam. As a method of survey, we adopt the small one-on-one interview and we asked both of closed ended and opened ended questions.
In our talk, we will present some graphs and a summary of our findings.
Results and Discussion
First of all, we have found that a majority of the international students in EAP 4 at Swinburne University are living in shared accommodation, whereas only a few students live in homestay or student accommodation. This result is not surprising because according to Duangpracha (2012),it is usual for international students to live with other people. In addition, the results of the
ISSU (2010) survey showed that 63 per cent of international students are living in shared houses (Obeng-Odoom, 2012).
Our results have shown that the main reason of choosing their accommodation was to live close to the university or to live with friends/ family, while a minimal number choose accommodation because want to pay a lower rent. This result is the contrast with the research conducted by Journal of Higher Education Policy and Management in 2012. The research suggests many students stay with their friends because they want to share accommodation to reduce their rent (Obeng-Odoom, 2012).
Despite of very good satisfied, they complained accommodation rent in Melbourne is quite expensive than their countries. Furthermore, some student said it is hard to rent or find a home or an apartment in Melbourne. Also, normally they share accommodation with family or partner in their countries.
Conclusion
Thanks to our survey and research we have found out how international students manage the challenges of housing. Although the rent is quite high, they still want to live with their friends/family and live close to the university. Because they are living with friends/family. As a result, most of them don’t have any problem in their accommodation.
